Heat Flow Plates
Universal applications

General description:
Suitable for determination of the thermal flux density in a range up to 150°C. Heat flow
plates must be homogenously coupled with the test object. For attachment, e.g. to a
crooked or rough surface, either thermally conducting paste, Vaseline, silicone adhesive
or double-sided adhesive tape is used as required.
Technical features:
Heat flow plates consist of a meander of many duplex-connected thermocouples which are
imbedded in a supporting material. If the material is thick, the plates are constructed in
such a way that there is sufficient edge next to the meander, which prevents a lateral
deviation of the heat flow. The heat flows always refer to the surface covered by the
meander and form its average value.
Measuring principle:
When the heat flow plate is placed on the metering point to be tested, it forms a
thermal resistance to the heat flow. While the heat flow is passing a temperature
gradient, proportional to the thermal flux density, is generated in the thickness of the
plate.
Calibration value:
A calibration value is assigned to each heat flow plate, which correspond to the
thermal flux density in W/m if the plate generates 1 mV. The calibration value is
programmed out of works in the ALMEMO® connector. By this, the actual heat flux density
in W/m2 is displayed when using ALMEMO® instruments.
